New Features!

NuevaSync has several new features for the New Year:

Support for multiple, separate calendars on Apple iPhone and iPod touch devices is here!  Now you can tell which appointment belongs in which calendar, add appointments to the calendar of your choosing, and filter your display to show only events from a specific calendar.  What is most important of all, your calendars each get their own color.  We are currently phasing this feature in: if you don't see it on your phone yet, you will very shortly.

NSAS2_011

You can now select exactly which of your calendars you want -- or do not want -- to sync.  This feature is available for all users and device-types: just click on the setup link next to the calendar section after logging in to the NuevaSync site.

 cal_nsas_sel

Read-only calendars can now be selected for sync.  This is great for common calendars, like holidays, and for shared calendars from school or work.  You can make changes and remove entries from a read-only calendar on your phone, but those changes will not be applied to the remote version.  On an iPhone or iPod, read-only calendars are marked with an "*" after the name.

Can we choose the colors of our calendars?

AMAZING!!!!!!

I have been waiting since August 1 (I learned about nuevasync then) for this to happen! I am so happy I quit my me.com trial only hours before they'd charge me for a year!

Anonymous said...

I have an iPod Touch with fw 2.2, and i can see events from other read-only calendars, but no button to configure multiple calendars, and everything seems to be all in the same calendar. Supposedly, after syncing multiple calendars with Outlook, iCal, etc. there should be the option to configure multiple calendars, but i run Linux and can't try that. Any ideas?

Awesomeness!

A question, once the feature gets applied to ones account, do we have to do anything special, like resync or reconfigure the iphone account? Or is it completely automatic?

Jimmy said...

THANK YOU!! Great work to the nuevasync team.

David Boreham said...

@Jaime : it should be automatic. There is however also a new link on the calendar setup page that allows you to force the device to pick up a new calendar list (we've noticed that sometimes iPhone/pods don't for some reason). We'll be publishing an updated FAQ and troubleshooting page to cover the details soon.

Matt Dyson said...

I've managed to sync across events from a read only calendar, but I can't seem to find how to set up the different colours for the different calendars, if any such configuration needs to happen.

Absolutely amazing features, but surely if one feature works the other should follow?!!

Thanks guys :-)

Matt Dyson said...

P.S. I use Nuevasync to sync my Google Calendar across, never have used Outlook to sync across calendars, maybe why I don't have any menu option about multiple calendars? If so - is there a way around?

Jaime said...

I see my different calendars on the nuevasync calendar setup page. I tried enabling/disabling some of them, and while all the events are correctly updated in my iPhone, all of them are still aggregated on a single calendar as before.

I don't know if this means that the feature is still not completly applied on my account, or as Matt mentions, something else has to trigger the multicalendar support on the iPhone since I don't remember ever seeing any hint of multicalendar support on the iPhone GUI myself since I bought it.

I will wait patiently to your FAQ/Troubleshooting pages. Thanks for this amazing feature!

Henning said...

I quickly got my arms down again.
The screenshot looks amazing, but I still don't have multiple calendars on mine either. Read only works, but all calendars are same color.
I disabled exchange and enabled it again in the settings to download the calendars, but still pale blue calendar.

John Hancock said...

How cool is that. I only discovered this brilliant app a few days ago and it has to be amongst the most useful iPhone enhancements ever. This is what Apple should have done in the first place.

Thanks again guys. Great addition being able to sync RO calendars.

Balaji Dutt said...

Seconding the request to add this to Windows Mobile!

David Boreham said...

Folks: the feature probably hasn't been enabled on your account yet. Users are being enabled in blocks of 1000 at a time to make sure there aren't any unforseen server oveload issues with the transition. You can check if you have multical enabled on your account by looking on this page : https://www.nuevasync.com/PublicSite/user/service-configure.htm?page=0&svcCategory=Calendar
If you have the feature you will see a link 'Folder list on the device does not match? Reset it'. If you don't see that, then your account hasn't been abled yet. The plan is to enable all accounts over the next 24 hours.

Matt Dyson said...

Apologies, didn't read the text closely enough!

Can't wait to get this enabled - thanks for the clarification!

Scott said...

I cannot wait to see the ability to sync multiple calendars with categories in windows mobile.

I am able to choose which calendars I can sync but they all still have the same blue-ish colour.

Wonderful!!!!!! Thanks so much!

So just to check: If we have our other calendars available on the new Calendar setup page, but we don't have a link to force the device to pick up a new calendar list, then we haven't been fully enabled yet?

It seems a lot of people are having the problem of all events being synced to the one calendar, as am I. Hoping it's just a matter of waiting a few hours.
Thanks.

Can I ask, is the 8 calendar limit a temporary / beta thing, or is it a permanent technical limitation?

Again, brilliant, thank you.

First off... this service is AWESOME, and this new feature rocks, in theory... but I've got a lot of calendars, and unfortunately, 8 isn't enough to get me what I need (and used to have). :(

I play on 4 hockey teams, and have a calendar for each team (so that I can share each one with each team) and I also have a calendar for the LA Kings games, so right off the bat, 5 of my 8 slots are accounted for... add Personal, Holidays (read-only, which I'm VERY HAPPY I can add now!) and Birthdays and I'm out of slots...

I know that I'm already getting WAY more than I'm paying for here, but if you could bump the number of sync'able calendars up to 10 (or higher!) that would be even more awesome!

Thanks for all your hard work!

This is excellent. I'm glad to see such a good, free, service expanding their feature list so quickly. Just waiting for my account to get enabled now for this option!

Marc said...

hmm...too bad, it's not activated in my account yet. Allthough I see the different calendars in my NuevaSync Settings, only one calendar shows up on my iPhone...*sigh*...guess I have to wait a little longer then :-|

David said...

First of all: David and team! Thank you!!!

I did some testing (sync between google calendar and iphone 2.x) and I concluded the following:

As you add each calendar (ie check it within the nuevasync site and give it time to sync on the iphone - approx 2 mins) the colors are assigned in the following order:
1. Yellow - not sure why but this is the color for the default calendar
2. Red
3. Orange
4. Blue
5. Green
6. Purple
7. Red - same shade -repeating 2
8. Orange (notice a trend?)

I also noticed that if you remove a calendar, then the next calendar added will be assigned that color. So for example: if I had 7 calendars (the max allowed is 8 I believe) and I had added the "carpooling" calendar as the fifth calendar it would be green. So lets say I then uncheck that one and add in a new calendar. It would not be orange as the order might suggest, it simply backfills the 5th green spot.

only 8 sync calendars :-(

I'm still waiting for multi cal to show up on my phone too.
Trying to be patient...

Seems to me that the colors are pretty random. I can't get my default calendar to stay the same color at all. It was orange, then dark blue, and now it's cyan.

Also, I had appointments show up in my default calendar that were also (correctly) located in other calendars. For instance, I have a repeating seminar on Wednesday mornings with a group. The seminar is on that group's calendar, but today it showed up on mine (on the iPhone only, not on google). This happened to several appointments. When I deleted the version in the (incorrect) default calendar, it would delete both the incorrect and the correct version on google. I got it all squared away, but did have to re-enter several items and delete extras.

deepdvd said...

Sweet! For all those that haven't figure out the colors option...

You have to enable multiple folders during calendar setup. It's a link to click on.

Also, my default calendar color is red, not yellow as stated previously.

paxos said...

@deepdvd: Link? Where?

I think the link is still missing on some accounts. Can anyone validate this?

This is awesome, I can't wait for it to be enabled. This might just make me keep my iPhone instead of getting the G1.

@paxos: the link disappeared after I enabled it, but I think it was on this page

This is absolutely fantastic... THANK YOU!!

But to repeat a question-- can I choose custom colors for each calendar, or at least choose colors myself?

Unknown said...

i have been using nuevasync for some time now and i am veeerrrrry thankful for it!

i have not seen any link, just the ability to check/uncheck the various calendars to sync. still waiting.

Thanks to nuevasync for providing MUCH more than we pay for! rare, indeed!

Adam said...

ditto what Ameet said.

amazing.

Justin Evidon said...

I just noticed that the colors have been expanded beyond the 6-color rotation (one of them is an impossible-to-read bright blue). However, still no way of choosing the colors for the calendars. Perhaps there is a way to configure on the server-end the order in which the calendars get pushed out to the device?

Felipe Bay said...

Great new features
Congratulations on this great free service!!!

Unknown said...

Whoa, aweomse! I just saw all the colored calendars pop up :-D

Is there any way to pick the colors? I couldn't find anything in the iPhone's settings. Maybe on the calendar setup page on the nuevasync account?

Even if we can't change colors, thanks for the update :-D

Kris said...

I just signed up yesterday and I was surprised to see that it handled my multiple calendars perfectly! From your FAQ I didn't think it would work, but I guess I just got really lucky on the timing of the new feature. So far Nuevasync is working perfectly, and it seems like the answer to my Google - iPhone syncing issues! Great job...

I don't see separate colors for my calendars, either. Please advise as to whether that's par for the course and will be automatically corrected or whether I (and all others with the same problem) have something wrong. And, in general, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This is definitely the feature I've been waiting for!

Unknown said...

This is fantastic, Nuevasync is now pretty much a perfect product... especially since it's free.

It would be nice to be able to customize the calendar colours, but in the meantime, I'm just going to change my Google Calendar colours so everything matches.

Unknown said...

I'm not seeing custom colors, just the plain old apple blue.

Drew Perry said...

I'm still not seeing colored separate calendars and it's more than 24 hours later. I'm not complaining in the least, just hoping for a status update. I'm very excited for the update, guys. Thanks so much for a great product.

Anonymous said...

Ditto here about lack of multicalendar so far. Will this take longer than the originally anticipated 24 hours? If so, any way we can get status reports?

I found for my iphone, starting with a clean slate by turning off the calendar sync, I was able to manipulate the colors by temporarily changing the names of my google calendars. If i sync just my default google calendar its blue on the phone, but if I choose to sync 2 calendars they are red and orange. 3 became red, orange, and then blue.

So i turned off all calendars except the default in nueavasync, then renamed my calendars in google by preceding them with an "a", "b", "c", etc... Then turn on the calendars to sync in nuevasync, then enable calendar sync on the iPhone. This allowed for me to sync and get my "a" prefixed calendar to be red, then my "b" prefixed calendar to be orange, "c" blue, and so on.

Then after your synced up with the colors as you like them, with whats available on the phone, then go into google calendar and rename your calendars back by removing the prefix letters. Log back in to Nueavasync and you should see that Nuevasync will automatically pickup the changes and sync the new calendar names to the iphone, but leave the calendar colors as is. Hopefully this helps some, it seems to have work consistently like this for me. Only issue i saw is occasionally if doing lots of turning off and on of calendars in iphone, sometimes you do get a yellow or purple color first in the list, but by disabling the sync on iphone and on nuevasync, then doing the above steps its been stable.

Just testing out Nuevasync and it seems to really have provided the missing link for iPhone, iCal, and Google users - great job and thank you!

I have a situation where I have four calendars in Nueva sync and on the iPhone, 3 of them are yellow (the fourth is orange). Not sure why this is, but I will keep toying with it and try some of the suggestions here (e.g., the A, B, C idea). Cheers!

Marc said...

@JB I think that isn't correct. I have another calendar in Google Calendar and that syncs events that are years in the past (literally).

Unknown said...

Does anyone else still not have colors yet?
I have all my calendars syncing, but not colors and no ability to chose them.
Matter of waiting?

Unknown said...

No colors here either (ditto what Nyctobello said). Is there something wrong with our accounts or should we continue to wait?

Thanks a bunch! NuevaSync is awesome!

Pierre said...

only one color for me too... I am waiting !

tDk said...

@JB: I couldn't get your method to work I'm afraid - my default calendar always ends up pale yellow, no matter what I call it or how many calendars I sync... In fact, I've now got 2 calendars which are the same colour (like @RT above)!

According to this forum, its a problem that's been around for a while, with all sorts of speculation as to whether its a deliberate ploy by Apple to force people towards MobileMe.

However, if its true that MobileMe does allow control of iphone calendar colours, then it might be possible for Nuevasync to emulate this from their service - here's hoping!

Josh said...

@tDk, I've run into the problem a lot in the past as well, where I had very random choosing of the colors. Perhaps I'm just lucky now with mine, but I can consistently manipulate the colors via renaming. Did you try starting completely from scratch? Here's what I did specifically to do it from scratch if you want to give it a shot.

1.Disable calendar sync inside of your Neuvasync account, then make sure your status in nuevasync says no calendars syncing.
2.Then completely remove the exchange account for nuevasync on your iPhone. Reboot phone and open your calendar and make sure nothing but the local calendar is there. Should be blue when you create an entry and have no "calendars" on top left and no button for Invites on bottom right. Then close out the calendar.
3. Prefix a few of your google calendars to test the color sync.(prefix with a, b, etc.) And refresh google calendar to make sure the change took affect.
4. Go into Nuevasync and enable calendar sync with your google account and authorize, etc.. Choose to have your default calendar and a few others sync. You should see them named with the prefixes as in gcal. Click the status page in nuevasync to make sure they are showing as syncing correctly.(greenlight, etc..)
5. Create new exchange account for nuevasync and choose to turn on calendars.

These steps are what worked for me, hopefully you'll get lucky and your sync will also stabilize. I'm on 2.2 firmware. I did encounter the randomized coloring when I turn calendars on/off/on/off in phone, but for whatever reason, when i systematically when about doing the above, I seem to get the results I want each time. very strange.

Josh said...

I should say too, as long as I sync at least the 5 i'm using, i am getting my order as Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Purple.

Perhaps it has something todo with the number of calendars. Try with 5 and see what the results are. Even if you makeup 5 new dummy calendars and in nuevasync choose to only sync those 5 to see what happens.

tDk said...

@JB - thanks for the detailed steps - I must admit I hadn't started completely from scratch, as contact syncing has been intermittent for me recently too and its working fine at the moment so I don't want to upset it again by removing the account :)

I'm also on 2.2 firmware. Syncing between 2 and 5 calendars, and using prefixes in Google, I still couldn't persuade the Default calendar to be anything other than yellow. Will keep playing though.

I also found this for jailbroken iphones...

Unknown said...

Please please please, it is so useful: can you allow more than 8 calendars suncing? I really need some more...

almanzarj said...

This feature has not been activated on my account! I tried steps highlighted by JB and still have nothing...any thoughts on how to get this turned on.

Unknown said...

Brilliant! You guys are the best!!!

Unknown said...

Is there any way to do this on Windows Mobile also?

Debbie said...

You guys are the BEST!! After the nightmare of trying to sync our family's 10 different calendars over 5 different devices, I found NuevaSync last year. What a gem. Even without multi-calendar support, it was still the best thing about the iPhone for me. Now with multi-calendar support (which seems to work perfectly on my iPhone right now) it is nearly perfect. You guys keep pushing the envelope. Now that you've finally got that up and running, we know it will only be a matter of time before you enable support for more than 8 calendars, and the ability to choose your own colors. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!

Cameron said...

greastest thing ever. I had been using emusync (jailbroken) but this is WAY better!

Would be nice if it followed my google colors, though!

You rule!

WG42 said...

There seems not to be a limitation to eight (8) calendars on the iPhone if you use MobileMe for syncronization - so it should be possible to remove this limit somehow...

Do you have any plans, when the "e calenders limit" will be removed again? I just started making two appointments at the same time since I have to "hide" half of my calenders on the go...

Unknown said...

Great tool, my calender and contacts on my device with no hassles. I'm using windows mobile and I look forward to seeing multiple calender support on windows mobile. If it's possible?

Unknown said...

I can view ALL calendars, or just one calendar.

Question: - Is there a way to view 2 out of 6 (Total) calendars?

Thanks
Super applinterface.

Question is it likely MS Exchange will cater for the 'Second Alert' feature?
